Barca came out on top once more in their first Copa del Rey match of the 2012 - 2013 season. It was a gritty game against a team that clearly did not like Barca very much - probably why Tito decided to leave Messi and Xavi out of the lineup altogether. They weren’t even substitutes! As proof that this may have been a wise choice, in the game we saw several instances where Barca’s players were treated badly, including: Dani Alves having his hand spat on while trying to help an opponent up, and Pinto having something (probably a rock) thrown at his head.
On the bright side, Barca came away with the win thanks to goals from Villa, Iniesta, and Cesc; and these goals were all incredible. If you missed the game, then go watch the highlights! David Villa and Iniesta’s strikes in particular were brilliant.
Another good point was that Barca’s youngsters preformed very well. Sergi Roberto definitely led the way and played in the hub of midfield very effectively; so effectively that at times Xavi wasn’t so sorely missed! It’s good to see the youth doing so well with the first team.
